Xi’an Spa Hotel

Situated nearby the historic Huaqing Hot Springs, the local government of Lintong wanted to expand the number of luxury tourists in the area to complement the many attractions. In addition to the famous springs, nearby are the Terra Cotta Warriors, wineries, and the sites of Xi’an.

The site was too large for an urban hotel, yet too small for a sprawling complex. The solution was to create a geometric icon that would signify the building to the surrounding countryside and announce itself in contrast to the surrounding lush mountain ridge. Extra care was applied to create a completely asymmetrical composition from every outside view and approach. Two sides of the pyramid house the guest rooms while the third side is open to allow the landscape to enter as an atrium. Underground program and circulation connect the forms.
