Varna Regional Library

Varna is a beautiful European city, with an historic context requiring a sensible approach to scale for the new Library. By dividing the main volume into 3 masses, the new building will fit into the surrounding city, while presenting contemporary architectural form and texture.

Closest to the Municipality Building is the area for staff and storage, housed within a thermal mass of masonry and concrete consisting of cast panels depicting notable selections of Bulgarian Literature. In the center are atrium spaces, daylighting the collaborative study areas and the main circulation. The accessible collections are housed within a glass and metal panel enclosure, shielded by an alterable metal fin wall for creating a billboard of civic expression.
